What travellers ask us every week on WhatsApp, answered once. If yours is missing, message us and we will add it.

Before you book

Booking and payment

Do I have to pay anything up front?

On most routes, no — you settle when you arrive, in cash (USD, EUR or MAD) or by transfer beforehand if you prefer. Some accommodation does need a 50% deposit to hold the rooms: luxury camps, higher-category riads, and peak dates. Deposits go by bank transfer through Remitly, and we always tell you the exact amount before you commit to anything.

Is the price per person or per group?

The «from» figures are per person, in a private group, sharing a twin room. Group size moves the price more than anything else, because the vehicle and the driver-guide cost the same whether two people or six are in it — so the more of you there are, the less each of you pays. You get one closed figure before you confirm.

Why are your prices in dollars?

Because most of our English-speaking travellers are in the United States and a euro price makes you do arithmetic before you can tell whether a trip is affordable. You can settle in dollars, euros or dirhams — the quote we send you says which rate we used.

What happens if I need to cancel?

More than 31 days before departure, your deposit is refunded in full. Between 31 and 25 days, 20% of what you paid is refunded. Inside 25 days there is no refund, because by then we have already paid for your rooms and your camp in advance. Not showing up on the day is treated the same way. Luxury packages are non-refundable at any point, governed by the hotel, riad or camp's own policy, which we put in writing before you book. If we cancel for reasons outside anyone's control, everything you have paid comes back.

Can I change my dates after booking?

Free of charge if you tell us more than 60 days before departure and the new dates are available — you would only pay a difference if the new dates fall in a higher season or we have to book a higher category of room. Between 30 and 60 days it depends on your accommodation: many riads, boutique hotels and luxury camps require full payment 30 to 60 days ahead, and once we have paid them, that money follows their rules rather than ours. Inside 30 days a change is treated as a cancellation and a new booking.

The trip

What our tours are like

Are the tours private or in a group?

Private. Your own vehicle, your own driver-guide, your own pace. We do not combine you with other bookings, which is exactly what lets us stop when the light is good rather than when a schedule says so.

Does the guide speak English?

Yes. Your driver-guide speaks English, and everything before the trip — WhatsApp, the quote, the itinerary — is in English too. In Fez and Marrakech we add licensed local city guides, which is a legal requirement inside the medinas rather than an upsell.

Can the itinerary be changed?

Every published route is a starting point. Adding a night, changing the order, skipping a stop or starting from a different city is completely normal. Tell us what you want and we build it with you.

How much driving is there each day?

Between two and four hours on most days. The exceptions are the runs to the desert from Fez or Marrakech, which are around seven to eight hours including stops. We always break the long stretches, and we time the arrival at Merzouga so you get there in daylight.

The desert

Merzouga and the camp

What is sleeping in the desert camp actually like?

Canvas tents on rugs at the foot of the dunes, dinner around a fire, and no light pollution for a hundred kilometres. The standard category shares bathroom blocks; superior and luxury tents are private with a hot shower. Nights are cold from November to February and the camps provide heavy blankets.

How long is the camel ride?

About an hour each way — in at sunset, out at sunrise. It is not compulsory. If backs or knees are a problem we take you to the camp by 4x4 and you see exactly the same dunes.

Is there wifi and electricity at the camp?

The camps run on solar panels: there is light and there are sockets to charge from, though they get busy after dinner, so a power bank helps. Mobile coverage at Erg Chebbi is reasonable; wifi depends on the camp and we do not promise it. Most people end up grateful for the hours without a signal.

Can I take children to the desert?

Yes, and they usually enjoy it more than the adults do — the fire, the drums and the dunes need no explanation. We fit child seats if you ask, and shorten the camel ride for the smallest ones.

Practical

Before you pack

When is the best time to visit Morocco?

March to June and September to November: days of 25-30 °C, comfortable nights in the desert and the cleanest light. July and August pass 40 °C inland, so we move the driving to early morning and the dunes to sunset. Winter days are mild and sunny, but nights on the dunes get close to freezing.

What should I bring?

Layers — the desert goes from 30 °C by day to 5 °C at night in winter. Closed shoes for the gorges, sunglasses, high-factor sun cream, a power bank, and clothes that cover shoulders and knees for medinas and mosques. Bring some cash in dirhams for tips and entrance tickets.

Is Morocco safe to travel in?

Yes. Morocco is one of the calmest countries in the region and tourism is central to its economy. You travel with a local driver-guide who knows the routes, and inside the medinas the only regular nuisance is persistent sellers — nothing a smile and a firm «no, thank you» does not solve.

Do I need a visa?

Citizens of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and most of the EU do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days — just a passport valid for the length of the trip. Always check the rules for your own nationality before you fly, because they change.

How do I reach you?

WhatsApp is fastest: we answer almost always within the hour, every day from 08:00 to 22:00 Moroccan time (GMT+1). If you are in North America, that means a message sent in your evening is usually answered by your morning. You can also email us or use the quote form on any itinerary page.

Question not here?

Message us and one of us answers in person, usually within the hour. Asking commits you to nothing.
